Man In Stolen Car Who Flees Onto Deputy’s Property Is Bitten By Police Dog And Apprehended
Lawrenceburg Now
A man fleeing from law enforcement officers in a stolen car Friday was ultimately captured after driving onto property belonging to the pursuing officer, fleeing on foot, then being bitten by a police dog.
At around 2:00 Friday afternoon deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were asked to be on the alert for a white Oldsmobile car that had last been seen in the vicinity of Baugus Church of Christ on Railroad Bed Pike in the Summertown area. The driver had reportedly fled from another deputy. Shortly afterwards the reporting officer indicated that he had spotted the suspect vehicle and was giving pursuit. At that point he reports, “I observed the car turn down a driveway across from Jensen Road. I turned down the driveway…and noticed that the white car had turned onto my property and was driving across my yard.”
Reports indicate that the driver became stuck in a wooded area on the property. The deputy reports, “I got into a small foot pursuit,” but soon lost sight of the man. A check of the license plate number revealed that the car had been reported as stolen out of Mt. Pleasant on December 31, 2015.
A THP trooper soon arrived on the scene with K9 officer Bak and began to search the area. They located an iPod and ear buds around forty-five yards from the car. After a time they were able to locate the male subject in a thicket, along with a female. They were identified as Bryan Adam Suggs, 29, of 871 Malton Road, Columbia, and Angela LeShay Hobbs, 21, of 8617 Old Lawrenceburg Highway, Mt. Pleasant.
Ambulance personnel were called to the scene to render medical attention to Suggs, who sustained a dog bite during the incident. They were then transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where they were booked under various charges, including: evading arrest, failure to yield (stop, halt, frisk), criminal trespassing, vandalism, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a revoked driver license, and failure to provide proof of financial responsibility.
Several Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol assisted in the search along with investigators with the Maury County Sheriff’s Department.
